Sprint Nextel’s WiMax Pick Spurs The Race In Wireless Broadband
The company is staking $3 billion on WiMax for its next-generation wireless data network. Its rivals are going other directions.
Sprint Nextel tested the WiMax concept with a group of real estate agents. They used mobile devices to record video of homes for sale, which are stored on the company server. When meeting with potential buyers, they can pull up a video library of property listings on those same devices, letting buyers decide on the spot what’s worth visiting.

The technology detects the connection quality of the mobile device and compresses the video, allowing for connection through WiFi and 3G, and can be enjoyed on a desktop PC, Apple Mac or WiFi-enabled PDA or mobile phone.

YouTube versus Google Video. David versus Goliath. It’s going to be an interesting bout.

That’s one of the many ideas that come to mind after reading one of the best recent posts on what’s happening in the Internet world. It’s titled ‘Google Video is the Future of Google‘ and is written by Loren Baker, Editor of Search Engine Journal.

He is probably right that this could become one of the major sectors for Google but YouTube has already vaulted into a premier position in this sector. Since this could be an important slice of the Mobile world, the stakes are obviously high.

So David versus Goliath. .. but which is which. What counts isn’t necessarily determined by the product end of the scale, i.e. technical capabilities or resources - sometimes it’s the customer / market end of the scale that determines outcomes. Perhaps among the key market sector, teens and young adults, YouTube has already achieved a major ’share of the mind’. If so, it’s not clear that Google can repeat what it has done for regular keyword search and achieve a dominant position.

If Loren Baker is right, this will be a battle royal.

    Google video offers more functionality and is for geeks…. in my opinion .. youtube is for the kids…
