I feel great for this post, you know the keyboard interface with a cell phone is far from ideal, the cell phone is designed expressly to handle sound. In parts of the developing world, the cell phone will be the only device that many will use to surf the mobile web. I think the huge potential of the developing world markets will well justify the investment needed to develop strong voice recognition systems….

I am aware of many other developments on mobile. On the mobile front, Nuance bought two interesting companies back in August, namely Tegic and VoiceSignal. Tegic are the company responsible for T9, the predictive text system used on many mobile phones. VoiceSignal have embedded speech technology that can be found inside handsets from Blackberry and Palm today. WOW what can else be …..?

Push and pull is a very rich concept which lends itself well to digital marketing (we’ve written about this on the Clicksharp blog in the past). And that’s part of why I disagree with Wilson… you can’t always substitute video for plain text. A lot of people relate better to prose — and from a producer’s point of view, it’s hard to always get the message across to video without losing something in translation. Those absolutes just never hold up…

No doubt Microsoft faces a challenge in the Internet and web applications that will define them as a company. However I believe that they are much more aware of and capable of responding to this challenge than IBM were with theirs. 5 years is a long timescale these days, and I for one think there may be a very significant development in the Microsoft-Google balance within that time
