Like its bigger desktop sibling, the Opera Mini clearly has some loyal supporters. The announcement of it serving up the 1 billionth web page has some interesting information. More than five million active users worldwide use the Opera Mini browser, with the highest number of users coming from Russia, closely followed by the United States, India, Scandinavia and the UK.

The most popular sites on Opera Mini are:

  • Google Search
  • Gmail.com
  • Friendster.com
  • MySpace.com
  • Yahoo Messenger
  • hi5.com

Opera Mini is increasingly being installed by both mobile phone carriers (operators) and manufacturers. T-Mobile is the biggest phone carrier to pre-install Opera Mini on some of their mobile phones.

It may well always remain a somewhat cult choice among its supporters, but there certainly seem to be a goodly number of them for now.
