Oh For A Mobile Web Initiative
Hot Mobile News
While video-sharing site YouTube was emerging into a full-fledged Web sensation, it got a big break from a legion of MySpace devotees. MySpace is a popular social networking site. YouTube made it easy to embed video snippets in personal pages at MySpace. Now other Silicon Valley start-ups are trying to ride this web sensation’s coattails by designing applications that will appeal to that same MySpace crowd.
Daniel Taylor has a most appropriate post on his blog called, ‘Who Designs This Stuff?‘ It illustrates the frustrations of dealing with websites on mobile devices. It’s well worth reading, as are many of his posts. As the mobile world gets bigger and bigger, this issue has got to be crunched. All the more reason why we should all be supporting the Mobile Web Initiative.
Even on Desktops cross-browser compatibility is not easy and the mobile world with its diversity of screen sizes and resolutions is an order of magnitude more difficult. Cre8asite Forums does offer help through its Cross-browser Device Assessment Panel (CDAP) to those who are attempting to make their websites accessible to the broadest audience. However as yet few have risen to the challenge.
I should signal that I became aware of Daniel Taylor and his blog through the 40th appearance of the Carnival of the Mobilists. It was hosted by Anders Borg, who had a most interesting collection of mobile world related blog posts. It should certainly be on your radar screen.
