The biggest conflict we have seen all year has been in the smartphone industry. iPhone and Android have been battling each other all year long, which has actually put several phone makers in court. So which really is the best? Should you go with Android or iPhone?
Android Becomes Best Selling OS: Android – 1, iPhone – 0
There is no denying that Android is the most common operating system available on smartphones. 2011 was the year that Android came to prominence and really started showing their dominance in the overall marketplace. While the Apple iOS is only available on the iPhone and Android is available on a wide spectrum of devices, it is still clear that more people are accessing apps like Facebook and Twitter from Google’s OS.
The Tablet War: Android – 1, Apple – 1
Despite the different Android tablets available on the market, the iPad is still the clear and dominant force in the tablet world. While the Kindle Fire launched in the latter part of the year, the iPad still soared above competition as the leading seller for the all-important Christmas retail season.
The Samsung Galaxy S II: Android – 2, iPhone – 1
Tech writers and critics are clamoring about the release of the Samsung Galaxy S II. Not only is the screen bigger than the iPhone 4S, the processor, graphics, and overall functionality of the product are leaps and bounds above the new iPhone product. This may mark the first step Android phone manufacturers have taken to undermine the iPhone’s dominance as the device for creatives.
Apple Beats HTC in Lawsuit: Android -2, iPhone – 2
The legal patent battle between these two companies produced a slight win for the iPhone this year. According to CNET, Apple has forced HTC to stop producing phones that include technology Apple trademarked earlier. HTC has until late April to fix their phones or come up with a contentious counter-argument to take Apple back to court.
Siri: Android -2, iPhone -2
The introduction of the iPhone 4S brought about the release of the Siri app. iPhone claimed that this piece of software would be the first artificial intelligence device that fully integrated with the human experience. But so far, no one seems to be using the technology. Once more data is collected from users, Siri may pan out to be a unique iPhone product, but only time will tell. For the moment, this leaves the score level.
What will the year 2012 bring for these two mobile tech giants? There are rumors that the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 will be released and Google is working on making the Android voice activated technology even greater. Expect to see Nokia bring their flexible phone technology on the Windows operating platform at some point. On this battle-field, don’t expect to see anything coming from the Blackberry manufacturer RIM unless it is news about their bankruptcy.

I think that both the iPhone & Android have come out with great offerings in 2011 but I am very excited to see what 2012 has to bring. In particular, I am looking forward to seeing the development in Voice Recognition technologies like Siri.
Hello there,
here in Germany the “war” is still on. We are very exited to see the tv from apple. On the other hand, the people here are not so crazy about the iphones, and watching more about the power of the things.
greetings
Certainly Google Android mobile OS is ahead of any other mobile OS. Android will capture 50% of the mobile market in 2012.
Certainly Search engines Operating system cellular OS is prior to any other cellular OS. Operating system will take 50% of the cellular market in 2012.
Certainly Google Android mobile OS + Samsung beat iPhone in 2012!
iphone wins every time for for me i tried the android, the interface is so much more user friendly on iphone look forward to future posts.
Dont worry dude, let the Windows 7 phone come, it will for sure ruin the sales of both Android and iOS
I can’t buy anything Apple anymore. Their marketing schemes frustrate me and my sense of logic. I hope Android dominates 2012.
Apple continues to dominate the market with its functionality. I have been a user for 3 years now and I never want to go back to any other type of phone.
Well from an app developers point of view we love both Android and Apple platforms. Our clients are asking for their app to be developed on both platforms more and more. This has been more since the release of Android Honeycomb which really gives the iPad a run for it’s money and although Samsung are doing great I think Motorola have got the right idea with the xoom.
