Google Mobile gives search by voice whatever your accent

Search by voice and transit directions comes to Google Maps with a whole host of new features.

You can now search Google Maps for Android using your voice, making it easier than ever to look up places while on the go. Just speak your query and Google Maps will find it. The voice recognition engine currently understands English in American, Australian, and British accents. After you search, you will see a map of places. To help you decide where to go, business listings includes content such as store hours, prices, ratings, and reviews.

Google Mobile gives search by voice whatever your accent — 6 Comments

  1. About time someone did this! I’m a proud owner of an android based phone and absolutely love it.

However I have to admit it was always funny to hear stories from British people about the Iphone searching obscure terms when they something as simple as “food”

    Thanks!

  2. How is it that Google can out-engineer anyone in any game? How long has voice recognition been around? Why is it that Google sticks it into a quality product before anyone else?

  3. Doesn’t anyone else find this to be a bit disturbing. Maybe I’m a little paranoid, but what happens when they have a sample of everyones voice and decide to target market you no matter where you make a mobile call from? It’s a very small step from sampling an accent to saving a voice print analysis.
