The Mobile World is in explosive growth and it’s important to see the big picture of where that growth is coming from. Last week China Mobile overtook Vodafone as the biggest mobile phone company in the world. A detailed view of what’s happening among the leaders is given by a recent article, Revealed: The top 50 mobile & cell phone websites. As it says, there are a variety of mobile & cell phone sites on the web from handset manufacturers, networks and retailers to news, reviews and forum sites and it’s often hard to pick out which have the most influence and the largest user base.

The authors chose their full list by relevant keyword searches and then ranked their list in order of numbers of visitors to each website. The Alexa rankings for visitors were used and are shown in ( ) below. Alexa data is not 100% accurate but for websites with a rank of less than 100,000 it is generally regarded as a very good indication of relative traffic.

Here are the top 10 from their list.

  1. www.chinamobile.com (205)
  2. www.cingular.com (576)
  3. www.nokia.com (593)
  4. www.orange.co.uk (653)
  5. www.verizonwireless.com (684)
  6. www.sonyericsson.com (702)
  7. direct.motorola.com (948)
  8. www.o2.co.uk (2,444)
  9. www.samsungmobile.com (2,864)
  10. www.phonescoop.com (3,156)

You should go read the full article to see how the others in the top 50 ranked. By the way if you’re wondering where Vodafone (www.vodafone.co.uk) came in, they were just a little below at #12 with an Alexa rating of 3,730.
