China has most mobile phone users in the world

Television is one of the most popular means of entertainment. It’s no surprise then that the ability to provide TV on mobiles is being called a potential gold mine for service providers. Analysts including Frost & Sullivan and IDC predict that the mobile video market will exceed $1.5 bn by 2009.
CBS will use Bluetooth technology to promote its upcoming fall line-up. Starting in September, billboards located in New York City’s Grand Central Station will feature an invitation for commuters with compatible mobile devices to link up with the advertisements. CBS said it was the first known use of the technology by a TV network.
China hits 432 million mobile phone users, so says a piece by Dan Nystedt, IDG News Service, this week. This happened in July according to the government. This is far and away the most of any single country in the world.
Chinese users are signing up for mobile phone service at a far faster pace than for fixed line service. The figures show that China continues to outpace India, which has claimed its mobile phone growth now matches China.
The number of mobile users in China is nearly double that of the U.S., estimated at 218.2 million as of Wednesday, according to the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA), an industry organization.

I don’t think anyone will be surprised… China is a huge market for anything but it is very difficult to play in it because of their government. I hope this will change before I die =)
