Better e-mail messages on mobile devices

dotMobi has standards for e-mail messages.

The dotMobi group has now issued a set of guidelines for service providers that wish to run email services suitable for use on mobile devices. The guide lists one mandatory rule and a number of optional best practices for publicly available email services running on a .mobi domain.

There is a lot of good mobile email advice in this guide, much of which will be new to people who are not close to the mobile industry. The advice in the guide is based on open standards such as IMAP4 and the IETF LEMONADE work (though this is not mandated). This means that you can launch services based on this style guide using a variety of software solutions, either open source or proprietary.

The style guide along with others can be found at dev.mobi/styleguides.
